France Beat Morocco booked their place in the World Cup semifinals with a 2–0 victory over Morocco at Boston Stadium, bringing back memories of their memorable clash in the Qatar World Cup.
Morocco stayed in the game during the first half thanks to goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who produced a brilliant save to deny Kylian Mbappé from the penalty spot. However, the French attack proved too strong after the break.
In the 60th minute, captain Kylian Mbappé finally broke the deadlock with a stunning strike from inside the box, scoring his 20th World Cup goal. Just six minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé doubled France’s lead, putting the result beyond doubt and securing their place in the semifinals.
Morocco’s dream of becoming the first African nation to reach the World Cup semifinals in back-to-back tournaments came to an end. Meanwhile, Didier Deschamps’ France moved one step closer to an unprecedented third consecutive World Cup final. They will face either Spain or Belgium in the semifinal.
